DORCHESTER Town boss Mark Jermyn was a frustrated figure after his side’s defeat to Bideford on Saturday.

Ian Sampson’s first-half goal was enough to secure the three points for the Robins at the Sports Ground in Devon.

But while Magpies’ player-manager Jermyn admitted his team lacked urgency in front of goal, for him there was no questioning which side played the better football.

“We went into the game expecting to get something out of it and I would have been disappointed had we drawn, let alone lost,” he said.

“That confidence isn’t arrogance, it’s because of the performances we have put in.

“I didn’t envisage us losing, certainly after the first half when we were so much on top.

“They were the team playing at home but they didn’t take the game to us.

“It was frustrating in a way that they nullified us by not getting forward and were happy to win 1-0.”

He continued: “It wasn’t our greatest performance, it was just frustrating really.

“We went into it confident, we knew our game plan and we thought we knew what they were going to try and do.

“We started well and had corner after corner and chance after chance but didn’t take any of them.

“They hit a long ball forward and unfortunately we got caught and they scored.

“They may have had one more opportunity but that was about it for the whole game.

“We had the lion’s share of possession but our quality in the final third wasn’t there and we just weren’t able to break them down.

“But me and Nick (Crittenden) had a chat after the game and we both felt we were the better side.”

Jermyn’s was also frustrated that Dorchester were not awarded a penalty early in the second half.

“We felt we had a stonewall penalty,” he added.

“And the frustrating thing is when I spoke to their players on the pitch after the incident they agreed.

“From where I was stood on halfway I could see Lewis Morgan being pushed in the back.”

Dorchester stay 17th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division with relegation-threatened Histon coming to the Avenue this Saturday.
