DORSET Pentathletes club members have been busy since the turn of the year taking part in modern triathlons and tetrathlons.

The first was the National Youth A Tetrathlon selection event which saw the top athletes in the under-18 category bid for a place in the British team for the World and European Championships.

In the boys’ event, Harrison Yarnold continued his success of last year to finish second with team-mate Bradley Sutton coming sixth.

The club had four members taking part in the girls’ event, with Rebecca Bowles coming seventh, Georgie Lane finishing 12th, Charlie Follett 14th and Katherine Townsend securing 19th.

Both Townsend and Lane were taking part in their first selection competition, with Lane finishing second in the combined event.

In the Youth B selection for under-16s, Zoe Gowers showed her true promise by winning the girls’ event with Jessica Sutton finishing 12th.

Nine other athletes also took part in the South West Tetrathlon Championships with great success.

In the under-11 boys’ triathlon, Jack Amor was first with the best swim and Josh Cobb came third overall with the best combined.

Elektra Covell had a great day in the under-13 girls’ category. She won individual gold with the best performance in the fencing and shooting, then she linked up with team-mates Lily Amor (fifth) and Georgie Gussey (eighth) to take the team title.

In the under-13 boys’ section, Sam Cobb finished fourth with the best fence, Kara Hughes clinched gold in the under-17 girls’ group, with team-mate Libby Tolley grabbing silver and Ellie Gussey securing fourth to help win the team event.
