WEYMOUTH boss Jason Matthews is likely to name a fairly strong squad for tonight’s Dorset Senior Cup semi-final against Poole Town.

The Terras will be looking to get back to winning ways at the Bob Lucas Stadium (7.45pm) following their comprehensive league defeat at Chesham United on Saturday.

So far in the competition this term, Matthews has blooded a handful of youngsters and fringe players in victories over Dorset Premier League outfits Cranborne and Hamworthy Recreation.

But the Weymouth chief, who is also likely to feature in tonight’s game, is keen to involve more of the first-team's regulars this time around.

He told Echosport: “We have got 17 or 18 good players and I will be looking to win the game.

“I need a response from the Chesham game and almost everyone will be involved.

“Neil Martin will be cup-tied but on the whole it’s more than likely that if the lads are fit they will play.

“We want to give the fans something to cheer about and it would be good to get to a cup final.

“It’s a massive game. I want to win every game between now and the end of the season.”

Matthews’ men will also be looking for retribution over current cup holders Poole, having suffered a crushing 4-0 league defeat to Tom Killick’s side at Tatnam last month courtesy of goals from Steve Devlin, Luke Burbidge and a Richard Gillespie brace.

“I don’t know what Poole will do but I need to get my own house in order, so I’m not too worried about what other people are doing," added Matthews.

Football has a cruel way of hurting you at times and the last few away games have done that.

“I am starting to find out things about people and it is getting near to the time where you look at next season. We need to step up to the plate.”

Striker Tim Sills is likely to return to the squad while full-back Ashley Wells remains suspended.
