JAY Lelliott is looking to end a busy week with a bang after he clocked a personal best time in the 800m freestyle at the British Swimming Championships.

The Portland ace has had an action-packed week at the London Aquatics Centre so far after taking to the pool for the 400m and 1500m freestyle.

And the 20-year-old turned in another stellar swim this morning which saw him clock 7mins 58.43secs in the 800m time trial.

But with the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle still to come on the final day of competition today, Lelliott says there is no time to rest on his laurels.

“My race plan and surge worked pretty well, I saved some in the first 200m and then I built and built from there – I’m actually pretty happy with that time, so couldn’t be much more pleased,” he said.

“I definitely feel I’ve got a few more seconds to shave off, I am still trying to find my stroke again and it will take a little while.

“I’ve still got two more tomorrow, six events in total. I am starting to feel it, I slept like a log last night. It’s one of the perks of a 1500m swimmer – it may hurt while you’re doing it, but you sleep well afterwards!

“The 200m free I am quite looking forward to and I want to make sure I am in the right place to maybe knock up another personal best.”
