BOSS Mark Jermyn reckons there could be opportunities for young players to make a mark at Dorchester Town next season.

The Magpies’ player-manager was speaking after teenager Sam Old made his first-team debut as a second-half substitute in the county town’s team’s 2-1 defeat of Paulton on Saturday.

Jermyn is keen to see the 18-year-old push on and suggested the 2015/16 campaign may bring more chances for those on the fringes of the squad.

“Next season’s budget is going to be similar to this season’s, so it could be that we need some youngsters to come through,” he said. "And it would be great if we did.

“Sam is one of our younger players who came in on Saturday and did a good job.

“He might be a small lad but he is physically strong and I was more than happy with him at the weekend.

“If he can keep progressing within the squad then hopefully we should see more of him.

“David Jerrard is also pushing for a chance in the first team and he could get a chance next season.”

Meanwhile, Jermyn was delighted to have defender Matt Oldring back in the side last Saturday after a five-game absence.

He added: "Matt came in and started on the right side of three three centre-backs, along with myself and Chris Dillon.

"And having three at the back is the way we want to go."
