JASON Matthews still has the belief that the Terras can make the play-offs this season, even though he is fully aware his side will require snookers on the final day of the campaign.

A spirited performance from his troops earned them a point against title hopefuls Poole Town last night, in a goalless Dorset derby which attracted a crowd of more than 1,000 to the Bob Lucas Stadium.

And, while there is still a chance for his squad to extend their rollercoaster season further, the Weymouth manager remains upbeat.

He told Echosport: “If St Neots lose at Frome on Saturday and we win and we are still in the play-offs and we will face either Poole or Corby.

“Frome is never an easy place to go and you never know, we have given ourselves a chance and taken it to the last game of the season.

“But at the end of the day our points tally in the last 14 games is not acceptable and it’s something I need to address.

“We have made big strides this year and it’s about kicking on again.

"I have also made big strides this week to try and tie a few of the lads up for next season and the feedback I have had has been positive.”

Commenting on last night’s battle with the Dolphins, Matthews added: “Poole have a great back four and they proved that. They were well-organised and we couldn’t break them down.

“I think they had one shot on target and we threw the kitchen sink at them in the last 25 minutes, it’s just a shame we couldn’t play with that tempo in previous games.

“Overall I am pleased with that performance and Saturday’s. I probably feel we haven’t got the points we deserved out of them.”
