IT was perhaps inevitable that Kings Arms would end their title-winning season the way they did last weekend.

With the Weymouth Sunday League crown already sewn up, the champions went into their final game of the campaign against Market House at Redlands well and truly in party mood.

Chris Philbrick’s men were determined to bring their league programme to a close on a high – and they certainly did that.

The final score was Kings Arms 23 Market House 0.

The home side led 14-0 at half-time before going on to score nine more times in the second period.

Goal machine Danny Andrews netted no fewer than eight of the Kings Arms’ goals, while Dean Williams, on target in all bar one of the team’s league outings this term, bagged four.

Not to be outdone, Jon Brooks also registered four, with Saxon Axe, Andrew Dixon, Jeb Gay, Michael Hoskins, Cormac Lochrie, Michael Stone and substitute Damien Walsh got on the scoresheet as well.

Kings Arms’ huge win took their tally of goals in the league this season to an incredible 187 – and they only conceded nine.

Andrews struck on an amazing 61 occasions, while Williams finished with 54.

Philbrick’s charges hit double figures seven times and scored 20 goals or more in a single match twice.

They also kept 15 clean sheets in winning the league title by 10 points from Famous Old Spa.

The only game Kings Arms dropped points in was their 2-2 draw against New Star at the end of March.

Meanwhile, Dolphin and Famous Old Spa contest the Dorset Sunday Intermediate Cup final at Grove Corner on Sunday (10.30am).

Dolphin beat Kings Arms in the quarter-finals last December.
