STEVE Hoare won the PGA Qualifier with a nett 63 at Weymouth Golf Club to beat last year’s winner Gary King by one shot.

He will team up with Weymouth club professional Des Lochrie at the regional finals in June.

Jamie Herring continued his recent good form and partnered John Bishop to victory in the Centurion four-ball betterball with 45 points.

Senior Section

ROBIN Mitchell (Division One) sealed the spoils in the April Stableford with 39 points.

Junior Section

WEYMOUTH’S junior team played Yeovil away in the first round of the Longmore Shield and triumphed with an emphatic 7-2 success. They will now play Broadstone in the next round.

The Beckford Bowl team had a narrow victory over Knighton Heath with Sean Dimmick making a winning debut in both of his matches.

Molly Kington played at Ashley Wood representing the Dorset girls against the Dorset Seniors. Kington and her partner won their match and the overall match was halved.

Ladies’ Section

HAVING beaten both Bridport and the Isle of Purbeck, the ladies faced a tough Mail On Sunday round three contest at Came Down Golf Club.

Came Down fielded three single figured handicappers so were formidable opponents. Despite the gale force conditions, Mandy Hawkins, playing Gaye Thompson, recorded a great win of 3&1.

Sally Davis finished two up against Libby Legg and Julie King’s match went down the 18th and resulted in a win for Weymouth. Weymouth now face a home tie against Wareham.

The first trophy of the season, the Wilson Cup, was won by Jackie Taylor with 37 points.

Mixed Section

DAVID and Jennifer Kimberley have stepped down from organising the mixed doubles matches, which have been so very successful during their 10-year reign.

The pair were presented with a clock and bouquet of flowers by Graham Vile, who will be taking over the organisation of the section.
