WEYMOUTH have announced the appointment of Bradley Asagba as their new reserve-team manager.

Asagba, who made 12 appearances as a player for the Terras in the Dorset Premier League during the 2013/14 campaign, has switched from the manager’s role at Blandford United to the hot-seat at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

He replaces former boss Jake Richmond, who decided to step down earlier this month.

Speaking to Echosport, new boss Asagba was delighted to have landed the position amid competition from other applicants.

He said: “I resigned as manager of Blandford at the end of the season having come in October.

“Blandford was a really good learning curve for me but I just thought, with it being a voluntary position, if I am going to spend my time doing it I really want to push on.

“I obviously know Paul (Maitland) quite well and people at the club know me from before, and they obviously think I’m the right man.

“My job primarily as far as Jason (Matthews) is concerned is to make sure the reserves finish as high as they possibly can in the league and that any young talent around the immediate and surrounding areas come to Weymouth.

“I see no reason why that shouldn’t happen because the club is absolutely massive, all of the young players should want to come to Weymouth.

“Playing-wise we are looking to retain the current squad, as well as looking to add to it.”

Commenting on the arrival of Asagba, who is based in Poole, Terras’ coach Maitland added: “We had three full applicants for the job and just felt that with his wide range of contacts in and out of the county he would bring something different.

“He understands our vision with the reserves and the under-18s and how we perceive it to work going forward.

“He is not under any pressure to win leagues but we are hoping for him to produce one or two players for the first team.

“He has impressed me and Jase with his enthusiasm, and since knowing he had the job has made contact with players and put things in place already, so we are comfortable that he is the right man.”
