Division One

JD WETHERSPOONS 50 TEAM WAIKIKI 15

WETHERSPOONS began with strong feeds into the shooters from centre Sarah Garman and wing-attack Cara Rose, helping them to gain a 6-1 lead early in the quarter.

Waikiki defenders Vicky Winter and Lauren Stones worked hard to make some interceptions but couldn’t quite get the necessary turnovers to compete with Wetherspoons.

Great shooting from Wetherspoons’ Sam Rees helped increase their lead, while defenders Lauren Banks and Natalie Summerfield minimised Waikiki’s shooting opportunities.

Wetherspoons increased their lead to 24-8 by the end of the second quarter.

Waikiki’s Lauren Stones worked tirelessly but Wetherspoons shooters Sam Rees and Meegan Ling were unstoppable in the circle.

WYKE SMUGGLERS 28 CRESTA LEISURE 50

WYKE didn’t initially feel the effects of only having six players and stayed within four goals of Cresta, who were playing well in the attacking circle with shooters Carolyn Allgood and Sue Woolley displaying excellent teamwork.

Wyke’s centre players helped keep Cresta within reach and when their seventh team member arrived in the second quarter they were able to up the pressure on their opponents.

However, Wyke struggled to find the net in the second quarter, despite better movement in and around the circle from Sue Cox and Tracy Moore.

Cresta were accurate and fast through the centre of the court with good movement from Claire May.

Cresta kept a clear lead but Wyke defenders Vicky Bond and Katherine Rupp put up a good fight with some fantastic interceptions.

The Cresta attack had been on top form throughout, not giving Wyke any room for errors, and interceptions from goal-defence Jayne Guppy stopped Wyke from reducing the gap.

Division Two

OTC 23 NEW IMAGE 34

AFTER a timid start by both teams, New Image began working some nice attacking plays.

The second quarter saw more hustle from the two sides with crucial interceptions from New Image wing-defence Lauren Jones.

Accurate shooting from Sam Warren and Jane Murray gained New Image a lead of six goals going into the third quarter.

OTC goal-keeper Bryony White was the most vocal player, encouraging her team and maintaining morale, as well as performing superbly alongside Diane Hartley.

OTC won the third quarter by eight goals to seven with excellent shooting from Emma Mills and Crista Butcher.

However, it wasn’t enough to take the lead from their opponents.

With Zoe Fowler in good form, New Image extended their lead in the final quarter and finished as clear winners.

Division Two

WJNC 13 BAY FENCING 47

BAY took the lead from the start with good possession throughout the court, and the height of goal-shooter Emily Park proved to be a big advantage.

WJNC made a few interceptions and shooters Skyla Erskine and Emily Conning were accurate, however, they had limited opportunities to go for goal despite good passing throughout the attackers.

Bay consistently increased their score with centre court players Hayley Stanton, Sandra Firth and Charlotte Newman finding space.

WJNC’s Halle Patterson had a fantastic game and worked hard against Bay’s Charlotte Reid.

Bay maintained the pressure and triumphed by 34 points.
