DORCHESTER SECONDS 163 (18pts) beat WEYMOUTH SECONDS 94 (5pts) by 69 runs

DORCHESTER Seconds completed a derby double for the county town club over Dorset rivals Weymouth at the weekend with victory in a low-scoring County Division Three encounter.

While Simon Mitchem’s first XI were seeing off the Seasiders in their Premier League clash over the Ridgeway, Stuart Beasley's second string were getting the better of Marco Nott’s side at Redlands.

Victory for Dorchester Seconds means they have now won their first three fixtures this term, putting them second in the table three points behind Ashmore, who also boast a 100 per cent record.

Weymouth skipper Nott won the toss and chose to bowl first on Saturday, with Joslin and Josh Foot opening the batting for the visitors.

Foot was the first to go when he was trapped leg before for four off the bowling of Joe James.

Malcolm Stroudley joined Joslin (37) at the crease and the duo added 68 for the second wicket until Nott bowled the latter.

Nott (3-37) then dismissed Stroudley for 45 but Mike Peake showed his resilience as wickets fell around him.

Beasley, Matt Porter, George Foot and Will Channon all went cheaply, however, Peake hit three fours and a six in a crucial knock of 45.

James removed Peake and went on to blast his way through the tail for excellent figures of 6-18.

Peake (1-14) and Beasley (1-12) opened the bowling for Dorchester and both took a wicket within the first four overs.

Luke Lovett was clean bowled by Beasley without scoring and Peake had Tony Quayle caught by Channon for just seven.

The hosts only managed 14 runs in as many overs at the start of their reply, and things didn’t get much easier for them as the innings went on.

Five more wickets fell before the Seasiders reached 60, with Dominic Webb and Lee Dolbear the only two of that quintet to get into double figures.

Only a defiant stand of 33 for the eighth wicket between Bill Trevett and Nott, who both scored 15, prevented a total collapse by the home side.

All of Dorchester’s bowlers performed well on the day but the Weymouth batsmen did punish the very few bad balls.

Channon (2-22), Josh Foot (1-6), Porter (2-4) and George Foot (3-16) also chipped in with wickets.
