FOUR young windsurfers from the Official Test Centre (OTC) travelled to Stithians Lake in Cornwall for the Junior National Watersports Festival.

The event, organised by Allan Cross, was aimed solely at youngsters interested in different types of watersports including windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), canoeing and kite surfing.

There was also an opportunity to try out the latest kit alongside a number of sportsmen and women in the main disciplines, who demonstrated their skills to the next generation.

This included top freestyle windsurfers such as Andy Chambers, RS:X windsurfer Izzy Hamilton and Zara Davis, who is the world speed record holder.

Scotty Stallman, Sam Anstey, James Faley and Tyler Baker spent the first day practising their freestyle moves under the watchful eye of Chambers, as well as visiting all of the trade stands to collect tips and advice on the latest kit.

The second day was foggy to start with and there was little wind to be found, however, the organisers arranged SUP racing which kept all the youngsters busy.

All really enjoyed using the XL SUPs, which seemed to stand up well to having 10 children and an instructor on board at the same time.

Later in the day, the fog cleared and the wind picked up and it was back to freestyle windsurfing.

In the afternoon, the four OTC boys showed off the skills which they have honed in Portland Harbour.

Stallman and Anstey were first and second respectively, with Faley and Baker not far behind.

With the wind still building in the afternoon, the speed event took place and a hand held speed gun was used to check how fast the sailors were going.

Again, the OTC youngsters excelled, with Stallman and Anstey repeating their earlier success and taking the top two places for a second time.

All in all, there were some brilliant results for the OTC foursome, and it was a great learning experience for everyone.

The event concluded with a fantastic awards ceremony where everyone went away with a prize.
