MANAGER Jason Matthews has revealed to Echosport that Alec Fiddes has left the Terras by mutual consent.

The former Weston-super-Mare man, who arrived at the club in December, becomes the second player to depart the Bob Lucas Stadium in a number of days after Steve Colwell announced his exit earlier this week.

Speaking about the decision to part ways with winger Fiddes, Matthews said: “It was probably best for both parties because he is young and he wants to play.

“I’d like to thank him very much for his efforts and we all want to wish him the best for his future football career.

“It was hard because there is a lot of competition in those places, and he probably didn’t play as many games as he would have liked.

“I think that he probably didn’t quite have the impact that he wanted.”

One of Fiddes’ highlights in a Terras shirt came in March when he scored an extra-time winner at the Bob Lucas Stadium to beat Poole Town in the semi-finals of the Dorset Senior Cup.

Following the winger’s departure, Matthews has also hinted that he is close to agreeing deals to bring some new faces in over the next seven days.

He added: “I have earmarked a few new players and hopefully over the next week we will have one or two new signings.

“A couple of the other lads are pondering over deals as well.”

Meanwhile, the Terras boss was also keen to sing the praises of Jordan Copp after he secured the 21-year-old’s services on non-contract terms for next season.

He added: “I think that Jordan started his career off superbly with us and there was good competition between him and Jake Wannell.

“I felt at the end of the season he came back really well and made the left-back spot his own ahead of Neil (Martin).

“He is obviously a midfielder as well which gives me some versatility, and to get him signed gives me some continuity in the squad. For me it was a no-brainer.”
