THE second week of the Weymouth Go Spike League saw 30 players take part on a bitterly cold evening.

The A section was again fiercely competitive with the teams battling for points to qualify for the monthly ‘king of the beach’ competition, which takes place in two weeks time.

The first semi-final saw the previous week’s winners Craig Bishop and James Tagart take on Carl Neale and Ian Denslow.

Bishop and Tagart got into an early lead and never looked like losing as they went on to win 21-14.

The second semi-final saw last week’s beaten finalists Ali Mitchell and Stephen Williamson take on the experienced pair of Rob Semmence and Dom Cosserat.

Up until now Semmence and Cosserat had been having a difficult season, losing all their matches last week and only just qualifying for this semi-final.

However, this match saw Semmence and Cosserat back to their best as they ran out 21-17 winners.

The final saw the two pairs produce an epic battle with points alternating between the two sides all the way up to 16-16. At this point, Semmence and Cosserat stretched their lead as Bishop and Tagart made a few service receive errors.

This was enough to separate the teams and Semmence and Cosserat ran out 21-17 winners to take their first title of the season.

The B series featured a number of sides trying out competitive beach volleyball for the first time. The final saw the team of Liam Tewksbury and Gary Cheesman, a mixture of youth and experience, come through to win their first ever event.

They beat Steve Coombes and Ian Dixon in the final, 21-6.
