MARK Jermyn has expressed his delight at bringing Neil Martin back to the Avenue.

Martin rejoined Dorchester Town today after 18 months away at Poole and then Weymouth.

The 26-year-old left-sided player originally left the Magpies in November 2013 on the back of cuts to the playing budget.

He had been voted the players’ player of the year the previous season when Dorchester achieved their highest points tally in the Conference South.

But after leaving for Tatnam and then joining the Terras this February, Martin has now returned to the club where player-boss Jermyn reckons he played his best football.

“I played with Neil for a number of years at Dorchester and then again at Poole,” said Jermyn.

“We did try and re-sign him when he left Poole last season but at the time we weren’t able to.

“He is someone we’ve wanted for a while and I’m delighted to bring him back to Dorchester.

“He’ll be a great addition to our squad and will fit in well with how we want to play next season.

“He’s a fit lad, a quality player, and a good character to have at the club.”

He continued: “Neil contributed to Dorchester’s highest points tally in the Conference South a few years ago and was involved in that great FA Cup run we had.

“There were offers from other clubs so I’m glad he decided to move across.

“The fans can rest assured that this is a quality signing and Neil’s someone that we are very excited to have back on board.

“I’d like to welcome him back to the club where I thought he played his best football.”

Jermyn went on to add: “The squad is looking very much healthier now, and we are still speaking with other players.”

Meanwhile, former Dorchester striker Glenn Howes, the new manager of Wessex League Premier Division outfit Blackfield & Langley, has swooped to sign Sam Poole after he left Weymouth earlier this week.
