PROLIFIC marksman Stewart Yetton believes new player-assistant manager Tim Sills is a fantastic appointment as the Terras’ number two.

The club captain, who regularly featured as part of a strike force with Sills last season, feels the former Torquay and Aldershot man’s influence will be a key asset to the squad next term, after he was appointed by boss Jason Matthews earlier this month.

“I think Sillsy wants to step into being an assistant-manager and I honestly think he will be great in and around the dressing room,” skipper Yetton told Echosport.

“He is one person that, when he talks, people shut up and listen. They have a lot of respect for what he says.

“He will have the backing of the dressing room instantly and there is a bit of continuity there as well. I think it’s a cracking appointment by Jase.

“I don’t know how much he is going to play or not play but, for me, he can still do a job on the pitch as well. That’s down to him and Jase as to how they are going to manage that.”

Last weekend, Yetton, who has once again been linked with former club Truro City this summer, also picked up the joint top goalscorer award for his 28 league strikes in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

But, ever the perfectionist, the frontman believes there was still chances to add to his tally last term and was left slightly frustrated.

He added: “There’s always room for improvement and I think I could have scored more.

“In the last few games of the season I probably should have scored about five goals. I scored one in the last three games and had other chances.

“At the time I took it quite badly because in the Corby and Biggleswade games I had the chances that could have won us the game.

“Had that been the case and I'd scored, it could have got us in the play-offs. To pick up an award was nice but I would have preferred to have been there as captain having gone up.

“Individual awards are good but, although I scored those goals, it can be attributed to the team because they are the ones who create a lot of my chances.”
