CAPTAIN Chris Park is looking for his Dorset side to finish their season with a flourish in their last two three-day outings.

The Dean Park outfit, who are without a competitive win so far this term and sit bottom of the Unicorns Championship Western Division, face Devon at Exmouth tomorrow (11am) before hosting Berkshire later this month.

Dorset were close to getting over the line against Shropshire at home last time out and the county skipper, who is set to name an unchanged side for the Devon clash, believes his side can take heart from that display.

Speaking about that hard-fought draw with Shropshire, in which they fell 27 runs short of victory with two wickets in hand, Park told Echosport: “There were many positives, and for the first time this season we actually played all the good cricket.

“We were on top and if it wasn’t for bad weather I think we would have won comfortably.

“I was pleased with our bowling efforts in the first innings and Jake Lintott and Mas Khan put on a great partnership with the bat.

“Mas is a senior batsmen now and Jake is vice-captain, and they really set the standard.”

He added: “Bringing Tom Jacques in for the last game was a slight tweak but he did nothing wrong so we thought why change a competitive side? There was no need to for this week.

“We have two games of the season left and if we can finish strongly it puts us in a good mood going into the winter.

“We can see that the tide is turning now and it’s coming too late really, like it did last season. I don’t really know why that is.”

Park admitted at the start of last month that he was picking slightly blind by going off recommendations about seamer Jake Lilley.

But since his introduction, the skipper has been delighted with what the Bashley paceman has to offer.

“He has done everything we have asked of him,” Park claimed.

“He is impressive, has some pace about him, and has that golden shoulder where he seems to get a wicket in every spell.

“He has got wickets every time he has bowled and I am looking forward to seeing him again in his third game against Devon.”

Devon have dropped opening batsman Barney Huxtable for the contest with Josh Mailing expected to take his place at the top of the order.

England under-19 international Ben Green, who smashed an unbeaten 48 from 38 balls against Dorset in one-day action earlier this summer, is likely to be on international duty, meaning North Devon’s Josh King is set to feature.

Meanwhile, Dorset are also set to take on a Hampshire Elite International Academy XI at Dean Park in a friendly next Friday (11am).
