MANAGER Jason Matthews admits he has some difficult decisions ahead of him as the Terras get ready to kick off their league campaign.

The Weymouth boss, whose side lost 3-1 at National League South Gosport Borough in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, has a fair idea of how his team will line up against Cambridge City this weekend, but is still to decide on his final XI.

“A few of the lads have really staked a claim,” he told Echosport.

“Billy Lowes at just 18 was superb against Gosport and George Rigg has had an outstanding pre-season as well.

“Saturday confirmed a few things in my mind and there are a couple of decisions that will be very tough for me this week. A couple of places are still up for grabs going into the Cambridge game.”

The Weymouth player-manager also took the time to cast his eye over striker trialists Josh Grant and Kailan Gould.

“Josh came in and we will be looking at him over the next week or so," he added. "I felt that he did really well and staked a claim for a place in the squad this season.

“Kailan is really young and I think he is definitely one for the future. He is probably not quite the finished article at the moment and is someone we will keep an eye on.

“The chairman comes back on Tuesday and we will be having a chat.”
