GEORGE Rigg is eager to get going with the Terras this term having spent part of the close season working alongside some Premier League stars.

The former Bristol City and Stoke midfielder focused on his game throughout the summer with top sports performance consultancy Back 2 Action, who specialise in running a comprehensive, scientific training regime.

“It’s based in Bristol and people come from all over,” he told Echosport.

“Premier League players like Glenn Murray and Yannick Bolasie come, as well as a lot of the Bristol City boys, so it’s a great standard and helps me a lot.

“You normally run on the track and play football three times a week, and you're in the gym twice a week.

“I was quite fit in pre-season and have been for a couple of years now because of the camp. I am lucky to have it there.

"It helps you raise your game and throughout the month you're there you are learning from the best. It’s only going to get bigger and better.”

One man Rigg has also been working with at the camp is former Terras’ star and Olympic sprinter Darren Campbell.

Meanwhile, looking ahead to this season at the Bob Lucas Stadium, Rigg, who signed a new one-year contract in May, understands there is a huge amount of competition for his place in midfield.

But, having been hailed for his pre-season efforts by manager Jason Matthews earlier this week, the 21-year-old is eager to nail down a starting spot.

Speaking about the rivalry to make the Weymouth XI, he added: “That always helps me because it means I have to fight for my place and make sure I secure it for the majority of the season.

“It’s been hard in pre-season for us due to the game situation but the lads have been good in training and when we have played we have done well.

"We are ready for the season and eager to put right what we couldn’t do last year.”
