WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1 SHERBORNE TOWN RESERVES 1

WEYMOUTH Reserves maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the Dorset Premier League, but boss Bradley Asagba felt his side deserved three points instead of one against Sherborne at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

In-form Conor Jevon put the Terras ahead in the second half, only for Town substitute Chay Tully to have the last word with an equaliser inside the last 10 minutes.

The first period was void of any clear-cut chances on goal, although Weymouth’s Craig Michie came closest when he poked a shot just wide from a free-kick.

The Terras almost drew first blood on 50 minutes when Lewis Clarke missed a vital opportunity from close range.

Sherborne matched that shortly after with a strike that forced a fine save from home keeper Steve Boore.

The deadlock was finally broken with 20 minutes to go.

Connor Cullingford found Jevon, he turned a defender, and then fired a shot which ricocheted off the keeper and bounced into the net.

Jevon had an opportunity to seal his second brace in two games, and put his side top of the league, but he skied a great chance over the bar.

And the hosts were made to rue that missed opportunity less than a minute later.

Tully latched onto a deflected attempt from outside the box and drilled an equaliser into the bottom corner.

The final opportunity of the game came from a Weymouth free-kick on the left wing, but Luke Pidgley was just off target.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a fair result,” said Asagba. “We controlled the game for larger portions than they did, but it was fairly close.

“Conceding at any time in the last 10 minutes is disappointing, especially when you’ve just scored.

“We’re massively disappointed dropping points, but they’re quite a strong team and have improved a lot from last season.”

Weymouth’s next outing is an away fixture at Holt United tomorrow (3pm).

Terras: Boore, Wells, Michie, Butcher, Collingford, Anstey, Head, Buse, Clarke, Peart (Jevon), Zima (Pidgley).

Meanwhile, Balti Sports are set to shake up their squad ahead of their home encounter with Blandford United tomorrow (3pm).

“We are in a bit of trouble really,” said boss Marco Nott. “An ex-Balti player is having his wedding so we are losing a few players for that unfortunately, myself included.”

As well as the player-boss, Charlie May, Charlie Kenderdine and Josh Houghton are also expected to be unavailable.

Regular goalkeeper Andy Nott is still away and Karl Dean and Lewis Ironside remain on the sidelines through injury – Clinton Coltart is expected to play between the sticks.

Elsewhere, Bridport Reserves go to Cranborne (3pm).
