KEEPER Shane Murphy has backed his Dorchester Town team-mates to come back fighting after Tuesday’s slump at Slough.

A 4-1 defeat brought an end to the Magpies’ six-match unbeaten run in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division and saw them miss out on a chance to leapfrog rivals Weymouth in the table.

But Murphy, who was quick to accept that he was at fault for Slough’s first goal, insists the players are ready to put the setback behind them and move on.

“We started off quite slowly against Slough and never really got going,” he told Echosport. “It was just one of those games that every team has.

“We have got a tight group of lads and I would back every player to come back positively in the next game.

“Like we said after the match, we know we’ve really got to step up now and I’m sure everyone will.

“We have to remember that we have been playing well and things around the club have been good.”

On his own run in the first team, he added: “Apart from Tuesday, I’ve been happy with how I’ve been playing.

“I’m pleased the manager decided to play me and I want to keep hold of the shirt now.”

Murphy and his team-mates don’t play again until next Tuesday when they host Poole Town in the Red Insure Cup.

Meanwhile, Weymouth's trip to Winchester City in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy will now take place on Friday, October 30 (7.45pm).
