TREVOR Senior is hoping to rekindle his love affair with the Les Phillips Cup as he looks to lead Bridport to glory in this season’s competition.

Bees boss Senior lifted the trophy twice as manager of Bridgewater in the early 2000s and is keen to one day make it a hat-trick of successes.

And his Bridport side have a great chance of clearing their first hurdle in the tournament this term when they host Bishop Sutton at St Mary’s Field tomorrow (3pm).

While Senior’s charges have been beaten just once in their last eight league and cup outings, their opponents have only won one game during the current campaign.

Relegated from the Toolstation Western League Premier Division in April, Bishop Sutton are finding life in the first division hard going with a solitary point from a possible 33.

But looking ahead to tomorrow’s preliminary round tie, Senior said: “They’ve only one won game this season but I’ve read some of the reports of their games and apart from the first two or three it looks like they’ve been in most of them.

“We’ve only lost one of our last eight and we want to keep that run going, and we have got nothing to fear in this competition “I won the Les Phillips Cup twice with Bridgewater in the early 2000s and I like it as a competition.

“We hosted the final last season and those that came to watch could see what it’s all about.”

Bridport put 10 goals past Bishop Sutton in the two league encounters between the sides last season, winning 5-2 away and 5-1 at home.

Senior is set to make a few changes to his side following their defeat of Hythe & Dibden in the FA Vase.

He added: “Ryan Hayter came off last Saturday as his groin is still niggling him after the Welton Rovers game.

“We’ll give him a rest this Saturday and get him ready for the Barnstaple game next week.

“Chris Senior and Darren Watts are unavailable so Sam Buckler and Alan Hill are back in after playing for the reserves.

“Matt Condliffe is back from suspension and Chris Clarke has a slight knee problem but trained well on Tuesday night.”

Meanwhile, Bridport have agreed to travel to Grove Corner next Tuesday for a friendly with Portland United.
