MITCH Conning’s stateside success continues to gather pace, as the former Terras’ and Portland United man was named American Midwest Conference (AMC) offensive player of the week.

The youngster, who is now playing for college outfit Columbia, played a part in five of the seven Cougars’ goals throughout the week.

He also recently bagged two goals and an assist against Williams Baptist in a 5-0 away win and netted twice against Lindenwood-Belleville in a tight 2-1 triumph.

Speaking about Conning’s performance after the victory over Lindenwood, Cougars’ coach John Klein told the college’s website: “Those were spectacular goals, they were all Conference goals.

“We had a lot of opportunities to score in the first half and didn’t put it away. Mitch just took it upon himself.

“The bomb from 30 yards we have already seen once or twice this year and then it was just a spectacular run down the left side, down the end line just to bend it in.

“They were two great goals, we needed him to do it.”

Conning, who also represented Yeovil Town at youth level, travelled across the pond initially to Iowa in July 2013 for the first two years of an Associate of the Arts degree in psychology.

He made 35 appearances for the Blues’ during their 2012/13 Dorset Premier League title-winning campaign.
