THE efforts of Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC) members throughout a great summer season were recognised at their annual presentation night.

This year’s dinner dance and prize-giving was hosted by the Royal Hotel on Weymouth seafront, with more than 120 members and guests in attendance.

The event began with a speech from CCSC commodore Richard Bowers.

He thanked all who had made the bash, as well as Rob and Sandra Smith who organised the trophies, and Debbie Bowers who co-ordinated the evening.

Aside from the main prize-giving, a special award was presented to the person who has most entertained the club this season.

This year, the award went to 20-year-old sailor Sam Barker.

Another member was recognised for his dedication and commitment to the club.

Brian Shaw has been on the general committee for a number of years but is now intending to stand down.

The summer of 2105 saw the Dinghy fleet have a consistent turnout of more than 20 boats at their club races on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday.

Alongside the successful club racing, members of CCSC were out in force at many major events across the country and in international waters.

Sam Pascoe and sailing partner Glen Truswell came away from the International 14 World Championships as clear winners.

On top of this tremendous result, Pascoe was also a part of the three-man team who won the 18 Foot Skiff European Championships at Lake Garda, Italy.

Eighteen-year-old Jack Cookson was the winner of the Laser Radial Youth National Championships.

He then went on to compete at the European Youth Championships where he claimed third place.

At the Yacht Clubs of Weymouth Keelboat Regatta, Tim Galego and Richard Woof won their respective classes.

Young Laser sailor Emma Bishop competed at the Laser 4.7 World Championships, while her brother, James, attended the European Championships.

The CCSC Scorpion team were awarded the trophy for the most boats from one club at the national championships.

Meanwhile, 20 years of ladies’ sailing was celebrated in the summer with Diana Gill, Sara Lloyd and Mikey O’Toole thanked for their efforts.

The cadets of the club are always improving, with many competing at national and international events where CCSC has been very well represented.

Everyone enjoyed the evening and are looking forward to another great season of sailing.

Castle Cove Sailing Club's Annual General meeting will be taking place tonight at their base on Old Castle Road in Weymouth.

This year there are vacancies on the board for the positions of commodore, rear commodore shore and members' representative. The AGM starts at 7.30pm.
