COLIN Tizzard took his record at Wetherby this season to four winners as the veteran Sew On Target (15-2) returned to winning ways to land the totescoop6 Handicap Chase.
Having shown little to date this campaign he had been given a bit of a chance by the handicapper and was soon enjoying it out in front.
Once Renard cried enough and Rathlin’s effort petered out, Brendan Powell coasted home 32 lengths to the good from Renard.
“The horses seem to like coming up here, they get a night away,” said Tizzard.
“I just hope the handicapper doesn’t overreact, he is 11 after all.
“I think he wants a bit further these days so now he will get in at Cheltenham, we might run him in the (Brown Advisory) Plate rather than the Grand Annual.
“He doesn’t have to lead and I didn’t think he’d enjoy the heavy ground so much.”
- Pink Play confirmed her superiority over Harry Fry’s Secret Door in the Wilmot-Smith Memorial Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.
Harry Whittington’s five-year-old had beaten Fry’s charge at Southwell 55 days ago and they clashed again in West Yorkshire.
The pair had it between them from some way out and while it was nip and tuck, the 1-2 favourite prevailed by a length and a half under Nico de Boinville.
Tizzard and Fry also saw Native River and Bitofapuzzle fade as Blaklion won the totepool Towton Novices’ Chase. Bitofapuzzle was eventually pulled up.
