NICK Crittenden believes that Magpies’ midfielder Luke Holmes is “going from strength to strength” after he bagged Dorchester Town’s opener against Cirencester on Tuesday.

The youngster showed great technique to slot the ball past Centurions’ keeper Josh Langley and put the county town side ahead in midweek, before they were pegged back 11 minutes later during the 1-1 draw.

Crittenden reckons that Luke Holmes has good technical ability and will be a key asset as he gets more match minutes.

The assistant-manager said: “Luke seems to be going from strength to strength.

“Technically he is very good.

“He has really come on and is starting to bring goals to his game.

“I think he struggles at the moment to go for 90 minutes but he is getting that strength more and more each week.”

Luke Holmes was replaced by striker Toby Holmes on Tuesday, who came off the bench to make his Dorchester Town debut.

And Crittenden revealed the Magpies’ coaching staff did weigh up the idea of handing the former Parley and Poole Town sharpshooter a starting berth.

Crittenden added: “He only trained with us on Thursday and we did toy with the idea of chucking him straight in.

“We are happy with what we have seen from him so far.”
