HALLEN 2

BRIDPORT 1

BRIDPORT interim-manager Mark Carter was impressed with his much-improved side despite their away loss at Hallen on Tuesday night.

An unfortunate rebound from a Hallen free-kick in the first half coupled with a lapse in defensive concentration after the break had the visitors down by two goals.

A Mark Salter penalty in the 73rd minute gave the Bess a lifeline but some late missed opportunities saw them lose for the sixth straight time in the league.

However, Carter was pleased with his charges and felt his side could have won the game.

He said: “We played really well but we didn’t take our chances and we were punished with two sloppy goals.

“There was a huge improvement, we played fantastic football and at half-time we were wondering how we were 1-0 down.

“I was disappointed with their goals as they were my mistakes. Even after our goal we created chances.

“But it was a 100 per cent better performance from Saturday (the 7-0 loss to Cribbs).”

The interim-boss felt the news of Adam Fricker’s appointment from Chard also had a positive impact on his charges.

Carter added: “With the new manager being announced, there was definitely a lift in the dressing room and I can’t fault them for their effort. They stepped up to the plate and we will go again on Saturday.”
