BOSS Jason Matthews revealed that he has put offers on the table to a number of his current squad already, in a bid to get them tied down early for next season.

The Terras’ chief, who has already secured the services of playmaker Chris Shephard on a one-year deal, has made it perfectly clear that he would like to keep the nucleus of his current crop together and will now have to be patient to gauge whether that is a possibility.

“I have made most of the lads their offers now. It’s just a waiting game for them to come back to me,” he told Echosport.

“I think I have made everyone a fair offer, it’s just a case of where it takes us really.

“It’s all a bit of a game and I would like to tie a few of the lads down for next season. Most of the feedback I have had has been positive

“This week has been busy, there are a couple of weeks where it’s less busy but, with pre-season to plan and things like that, you don’t just rock up and it happens.”

Matthews has also been busy looking further afield than his group from this term.

He added: “I have spoken to two players this week from other clubs as well. They have gone away and are having a think, I would be really pleased if I could get them.

“I went to watch Salisbury against Melksham as well to obviously see if there was anything to look at there in the Wiltshire Cup final.

“We would like a striker, there is no doubt about it, but I am hoping that all of my current squad will re-sign – that would be a big achievement in itself with the sort of offers they have been getting.”

The Weymouth player-manager also indicated he has been looking for potential pre-season friendly fixtures.
