AFTER weeks of waiting, the Dorchester players have heard from their manager Mark Jermyn about his plans for next season.

One of the players to be spoken to is Charlie Davis. The midfielder was one of the bright sparks in a turbulent season for the Magpies, but no deal has been finalised as of yet.

The player and the boss have spoken with talks still ongoing but the golden boot winner has said the wait for those conversations have been good.

He told Echosport: “It’s been nice. It’s been nice to take a step away from things.

“It allows you to sit down at look at things and look at what other clubs are doing and what your club is doing.

“It is difficult when you finish the season and two days later you are being called to sign or another club rings you, you just don’t know what’s happening.

“So it’s been nice to have a little break and it’s allowed the lads (Dorchester players) to speak amongst themselves before they speak to the manager and get their views.

“A break is healthy, football has a break for a reason. If you’re talking to clubs you don’t get that break, it ends up wearing you down. It has been a breath of fresh air.”

The close-knit environment of the Magpies’ dressing room is no secret and Davis acknowledges that the decisions of his team-mates will have an affect on his decisions for next season.

He added: “We’re so close that we speak everyday. Everyone is so happy as a team and it means it stands us in good stead for the future.

“If we can keep the foundations that we built last season together then I don’t see no reason not to be at Dorchester next season.

“It’s what I enjoy doing. It’s something I’ve always done and I want to get it wrapped up.”

Davis is well-liked at the club as was shown at the club’s presentation night this month as he picked up the online player of the year award as well as the golden boot, something which he was proud of.

“It was really pleasing to win the online award,” Davis explained. “For the fans to give me that was brilliant.”
