A WEYMOUTH Olympic windsurfing hopeful will be flying the flag for Great Britain at the RS:X Youth European Championships next month.

Lily Young has dedicated much of her time to preparing for the event, which will be held in Helsinki, Finland.

It is an opportunity she is much looking forward to as Young explained.

“At the Europeans, I am aiming to gain as much experience as possible and work out my weak areas to go forward into the rest of the year’s international regattas in Austria and Cyprus,” she said.

Her performances at the Royal Yachting Association’s Youth National Championships back in April helped her gain a spot at the competition next month.

She finished eighth at the national tournament, with her best result coming in the fourth round where she finished second.

Young’s windsurfing successes have recently been recognised as she gained new sponsorship ahead of the championship, that starts on July 2.

Young said: “I’ve recently gained a new sponsor, Flexioffices, the UK’s leading broker in flexible office spaces, who are helping me with my campaign.

“It is great to have them on board and I super appreciate their help.”

Alongside her windsurfing campaign, the 17-year-old has been studying A-Levels at Budmouth Sixth Form, who she said have been very supportive.

She also added: “I’d like to say thank you to Flexioffices.com and Osprey Leisure Centre for their continued support and help.”

Young will be hoping, with an impressive performance in Helsinki, that she can be selected for the Youth World Championships that take place at the end of the year in New Zealand.
