WEST Dorset Swimming Club performed exceptionally well at the Frome Open Meet, held at Millfield School.

For some of the swimmers it was their first open meet and also their first competition in a 50m pool.

All swimmers achieved dramatically improved personal bests in at least one event while many swimmers achieved personal bests in all their events.

Dave McRobbie, the club’s swim coach, was proud of the swimmers, he said: “Every swimmer performed tremendously well and there has been a huge improvement in the performances of this group of swimmers since the turn of the year – so we are expecting some great performances until the end of the season.”

Anna Charles (gold 50m freestyle, silver 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley, bronze 50m backstroke).

Charlotte Wyatt (gold 200m freestyle, silver 100m freestyle).

Holly Johnson (silver 100m butterfly, bronze 100m freestyle).

Ry Gerety (bronze 50m butterfly).

Cameron Bailey (silver 50m butterfly).

Tom Bailey (bronze 50m breaststroke).

Damien Barnard (bronze 200m freestyle).

Very impressive personal bests were also recorded by Jessamy Fursman, Nell Williams, Charlotte Prowse, Amy Norris, Gemma Wyatt, Erin Phillips, Jessica Mead, Katie Gabe, Vivien Taylor, Anna Southam, Katie Gabe and Joshua Prowse.

Colin Cracknell, head coach, added: “I was delighted that so many of our swimmers attended the meet. We were the largest club there and the results that came through were based on the hard work they have put into their training over the last few months.”

West Dorset Swimming Club train at both Dorchester and Bridport as well as long-course training at Millfield School.

The club have also had some trophy winners from the Dorset County Graded meet. Damian Barnard was the top 12-year-old boy. Joshua Prowse was crowned for the top 13-year-old boy and Gemma Wyatt won the top 13-year-old girl.
