WENDY Butcher has been selected as part of the England Masters squad that will travel to Edinburgh in search of more success after losing out in the final of the World Cup to the hosts, Australia, in April.

Butcher’s side will be up against Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland over the three-day tournament and the 44-year-old is confident they can win the event.

The Weymouth-based player has only been part of the squad since the World Cup and this will be her first home nation’s competition.

Butcher was selected for the team two years ago, but she had to pull out of the squad as she had fallen pregnant.

Now, back once more, she wants more medals after winning a silver Down Under.

She told Echosport: “We have a great bunch of goals and it should be great.

“We’re in good form after taking the silver medal in Australia and we are hoping to win the tournament this weekend.

“Traditionally, that has been the case but last year the Scots put up a good fight against us.

“I think it will be tighter than it has been in recent years.”

Each team faces each other once in a round-robin format and the team with the most points wins the tournament.
