BRIDPORT Tennis Club won the Division Two Dorset Aegon Team Championships, beating along the way, San Sebastian, Christchurch and East Dorset.

Rain battered the heroic Bridport team for this final home fixture decider against East Dorset.

This didn’t stop Neil Blincow, Ludo Blackburn, Arran Hall and George Skellern fighting to the last supported by their injured captain, Joe Chadwick who was instrumental in their previous wins.

A tenacious Hall won his singles using his legendary slice and aggressive net play to beat his opponent 6-2, 6-2.

Skellern moved his opponent, 40 years his junior, around with ease with deft angles and drop shots and with the help of his slice serve, won 7-5, 6-1.

Blincow put up a good fight against East Dorset’s top seed, who was by far their strongest player and 30 years his junior.

The scoreline didn’t reflect the closeness of many of the games and Blincow lost 1-6, 0-6.

Blackburn scorched through his singles using his huge forehand and serve to submit his opponent to win 6-2, 6-2.

With a 3-1 lead the teams and then moved on to the doubles rubbers. Skellern and Blackburn fought heroically and pushed East Dorset to the last, eventually losing 2-6, 7-5, 8-10.

Blincow and Ludo fought back from 0-5 down in the first set to win 6-7, 6-2, 10-3, with strong serving and aggressive net play.

Bridport have been promoted to Division One of the Dorset Aegon League next season and look forward some great matches and hopefully can do Bridport proud.
