DORCHESTER SECONDS 152-4 beat WIMBORNE & COLEHILL THIRDS 187-7 by six wickets

AN UNBEATEN 53 from Eiron Fitzgerald help Dorchester Seconds to a six-wicket win in a rain-affected match against Wimborne & Colehill Thirds.

Having been set a revised target of 151 from 31 overs, Fitzgerald dominated the latter part of the innings with four sixes and three four to help his side home.

Earlier in the day, Mike Peak took 3-19 from nine overs to restrict the visitors to 187-7.

Dorchester won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Wimborne’s openers Rob Pilato (30) and Ollie Woodruff (27) started well putting on 66 for the first wicket.

However, the hosts took wickets regularly from that point and had them at 129-7 after 35 overs.

Spencer Naylor (39no) and Charles Pilato (31no) then batted well to put on an unbeaten 58 to take their side up to their finishing total.

Losing 14 overs to the rain meant Dorchester were set a target of 151 from 31 overs.

Wimborne’s opening bowlers, Woodruff (0-17) and Martin Barker (0-20) bowled tightly but the home side’s openers, Simon Joslin and Malcolm Stroudley, played well and put on 56 for the first wicket. Joslin was out for 25 in the 17th over.

Stroudley and Fitzgerald put on 35 for the third wicket with Stroudley third out for 43.

Fitzgerald then dominated the rest of the innings, batting superbly and taking the hosts up to their target with eight balls to spare, hitting a four to win the game and bring up his unbeaten 50 in the process.

He finished 53 not out, which included four sixes and three fours.
