DORCHESTER Town manager Mark Jermyn feels this week of pre-season will be the truest test of his side, as they get set to take on Wimborne Town tonight at Cuthbury (7.45pm).

They will then go on to face last year’s Evo-Stik Southern Premier League champions Poole Town at the Avenue on Saturday.

When the Magpies travel to Wimborne, they may face two former players in the guise of Luke and Toby Holmes, who both left in the summer.

Speaking about the pair, Jermyn said: “They’re two players that I thought should have stayed with us.

“I feel they’ve chosen the wrong route, but they will definitely give us a good game.

“We expect to be competitive and know our shape.

“Our organisation needs to improve but that’s the same at every level.”

With only two games to go before the season kicks off, Jermyn is starting to whittle his squad down and find out his preferred side.

A player that has seemingly made a starting position his own is Shane Murphy.

The goalkeeper has played almost every part of pre-season and has taken over from Alan Walker-Harris, who ended last season between the sticks.

He hasn’t been seen so far this pre-season as Jordan Mullis has become the number two stopper.

Speaking about Murphy, his manager said: “We went with Shane because of his age and with more experience, he will only improve.

“He’s doing everything we are asking him to do.”

n Dorchester Sports are set to play their first game at the Avenue tonight when they take on Dorchester Town Reserves in a friendly (6.30pm).
