INJURY scares marred Dorchester Town’s entertaining 2-2 draw against Wimborne Town at Cuthbury, however manager Mark Jermyn is hopeful all will be fit for Saturday’s tester against Poole Town.

Matt Oldring and Jake Smeeton both had to go to hospital after a clash of heads and Mario Mateus limped off after a hefty challenge.

The other worry was of David Jerrard, who has agreed terms with the Magpies, after he rolled his ankle midway through the second half.

Speaking about the quartet, Jermyn said: “It was a hefty collision between Matty (Oldring) and Jake (Smeeton) and they had to get some stitches as there was some open wounds.

“But there was no concussions thankfully.

“I’m pretty confident that they will all be fine for Saturday. At this time of the year we have to take precautions.

“We can’t afford to lose any of them.”

On the pitch and away from the injuries, there was an entertaining game of football.

Mateus put the visitors in front after good work from Neil Martin before James Stokoe headed home the equaliser from a free-kick.

After the head collision in the first half, Wimborne switched off and allowed Liam Sayers to nip in and score to retake the lead for the away side.

Billy Maybury then unleashed a rasping effort into the top corner with 14 minutes to go to give the hosts a share of the spoils in the friendly that had a league game vibe.

Speaking about the game, Jermyn added: “We still have a lot of work to do before the start of the season.

“Injuries aside, we can take positives from the game. We are playing Wimborne and we are the higher-tiered side but the injuries showed how tough it can be.

“It was another good workout and we scored some good goals – so did they.

“Overall, I’m pleased with the performance, and I’m happy that everyone got minutes.”

Up next is a home clash against Poole Town on Saturday at the Avenue (3pm).
