CONOR Jevon “could be a very good asset” for the Terras’ first team this season, according to player-manager Jason Matthews.

The young striker, who has been a key part of the reserve set-up in recent years, has featured prominently for Matthews’ men at present, including getting 40 minutes as a second half substitute against Poole Town on Tuesday.

Speaking to Echosport about Jevon in an interview last season, reserves’ boss Bradley Asagba said: “Ability-wise, he should be a Southern League footballer, I don’t think there is any question of that.”

And this summer, Matthews insists the frontman has made the effort to stake his place for a spot in the first team squad.

He said: “Conor has definitely stepped up to the mark, so it gives us four good strikers and a lot of food for thought.

“I have always had a lot of time for Jevo and this year he has made a special effort in pre-season. I think he has done a lot of work in the off season as well and that’s there for all to see on the pitch.

“It is a massive step from the reserves to the first team, although the gap has been bridged a little bit with them going up, but Jevo could be a very good asset for us.

“I feel he needs to fulfil his potential and I will try and give him every chance to do that.”
