JASON Matthews is set to bolster his squad even further for the upcoming campaign with the addition of trialists Dan Thomas and Tiago Sa.

The Terras’ boss revealed that the pair have agreed terms with the club and are set to sign up, subject to paperwork going through.

Both full-back Sa and keeper Thomas have been involved throughout the Terras’ pre-season schedule and the duo started on Tuesday night against Poole Town.

“Both of them have agreed terms and, subject to them signing the paperwork, they are both Weymouth players,” Matthews told Echosport.

“I feel that Dan has come in and done well and it gives me an experienced keeper around. It takes the weight off my shoulders a little bit.

“Tiago came in and really did well.

“He is going to have some stiff competition with the likes of Coppy (Jordan Copp) and Coops (Mark Cooper) for the left-back slot.

“But he has done well and he proved that against Poole the other night. It’s no mean feat to mark Luke Burbidge, who was one of the best wingers in the Southern League last year.”

The Weymouth player-manager, whose side host Truro City in their final friendly at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (3pm), added: “We have a 17 or 18-man strong squad and there are one or two places that I am still unsure of. It’s a good headache to have going into the last pre-season friendly.

“There are still places up for grabs and it is up for people to take them in the last game against Truro, which will be a tough game.”

One man who is not set to be involved is trialist centre-half Jack Vallis, who was forced off early against the Dolphins in midweek.

“Jack needs to get himself fit, he doesn’t need me to tell him that,” said Matthews.

“He is obviously struggling a little bit with his hamstring, so it is a bit of a patience game with Jack.

“He has all the attributes to be a good player, the door is open for him and he is more than welcome. I hope he sticks around.”
