WEYMOUTH captain Simon Browne will not have the services of five of his players that extended their winning run to three games last Saturday, as they get set for a trip to Shroton tomorrow (1.30pm).

The Seasiders are set to be without Paul Payne, Dom Webb, Dan Hutchens, Michael Pearce and Dave Blackman for the trip as they go in search of a win that would see them leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Speaking about the absentees, Browne told Echosport: “Payne is out because of university commitments and Michael Pearce is away on holiday.

“They are two experienced players that will be missed.

“I knew this week was going to tough for numbers but it’s a little bit more fraught than that.

“We will definitely have 11 out on the pitch tomorrow but I’m not sure who that will be.

“It’s a shame but we’ll still have a strong side with experience to hopefully keep the run going.

“We’re waiting on a few players and it’s just a case of getting a team out.”

Reinforcements have been called upon for the Shroton test as Kieron Womble, Dean Janaway and Ben Doidge all come back into the squad after missing last week’s six-wicket win over Ferndown Wayfarers.

Last time the two sides met there was just two runs separating as Weymouth fell just short in their run chase.

Browne missed that game at Redlands and is confident his side can take their good momentum into the contest.

He explained: “It’s a little frustrating with the numbers and it would have been nice to play an unchanged side.

“We will still give it a good go at Shroton because it was a tight game earlier in the season and we will see if we can do a bit better this time around.”

The three returning players – Womble, Janaway and Doidge – all bring some firepower to the batting line-up and their captain wants to see them in the runs tomorrow, along with himself.

He added: “Doidge can be a very destructive batsman on his day and I haven’t batted in the last couple of games, so I will strap the pads back on and see if I can score some runs.

“We will go into the game confident that we can get something out of it.

“The aim is to finish as high as we can and we shouldn’t be getting involved in any relegation dogfights.

“It gives us an opportunity now to give some of the younger players (Harry Mitchell and Joe James) a game and we want to get another win.”
