DORCHESTER Town’s assistant player-manager Nick Crittenden was happy to see his side gain their first point of the season – but admitted their main focus is staying in the division.

The Magpies were the better side against Cirencester Town in their 2-2 draw, but it was the team’s first point in four league games.

He told Echosport: “The next thing we have to do is keep a clean sheet. We asked the players to score and they did.

“There are things we need to work on in training – shutting up shop – but they are young lads and they will improve.

“Make no bones about it, we have to stay up this season, That’s our goal, and we will do that no matter what.”

Three of the Magpies’ experienced defenders – Mark Jermyn, Nathan Walker and Chris Dillon – were back in the starting line-up for the draw with Cirencester and Crittenden felt they had a calming influence on the side.

He added: “We needed them. It’s all about leadership more than anything.

“It made a massive difference for us, just for the younger lads to see that experience around them makes them more comfortable.

“I’m really pleased that we got the point – we should have had three.

“I thought the penalty was a bit soft and the referee was inconsistent.

“But we showed some really encouraging signs and we looked dangerous.”
