DORCHESTER Town assistant player-manager Nick Crittenden felt there were plenty of positives to take from their game with Chippenham Town, despite the 3-1 defeat.

After a good run of form, that has included two wins, the Magpies, although valiant, were handily beaten by the Bluebirds.

But Crittenden feels his team matched their more experienced opponents for much of the game.

He told Echosport: “We are disappointed with the result, but we’re not disappointed with the performance.

“We got back into the game (through Jake Smeeton) and I thought that was fully deserved. From there, you’d expect us to create a few more chances and maybe win the game, but as soon as they scored it was done and dusted.

“We’re looking to take the positives into Sunday’s game because we have a young squad and we’re telling them to keep improving.

“And, against a strong Chippenham side, I thought we matched them for much of the game.

“We made some errors for the goals, but we don’t do that every week.”

Speaking about one of those – Matt Oldring’s foul for the Chippenham penalty that led to the first goal – Crittenden added: “I thought it was a little harsh. He’d had his shot and he wasn’t falling over. The boys thought it was harsh too.”
