NEW BODY FITNESS 61

AUTOBITZ 27

DOMINANT New Body Fitness showed their title credentials with a resounding season opening win against Autobitz.

Both teams started strong but New Body Fitness were able to pull ahead in the first quarter. GA, Annie Usher, scored some great goals and created good positions for herself in the circle.

With Autobitz struggling to get a good flow into their game, New Body Fitness continued to lead, with great balls being fed by C, Laura Walker. Autobitz began to make a comeback at the end of the second quarter and some effective positional changes allowed Autobitz to fight back against New Body Fitness in the third quarter, restricting New Body’s lead and giving Autobitz renewed confidence.

The final quarter saw the ladies looking tired, having played hard throughout the match. Both teams made some good interceptions, but injuries left Autobitz struggling, and in the end New Body Fitness continued to pull ahead and win the match convincingly.

BAY FENCING 19

BELLE CONSTRCTION 57

BELLE Construction ran away the clear winners in their Premier Division match-up against Bay Fencing.

Great marking from Belle Construction in the first quarter put pressure on Bay Fencing from the start. Belle’s defensive team showed expert skill in their opponent’s goal circle, limiting Bays opportunity to score.

Belle continued to stretch their lead in the second quarter, thanks to good interceptions from GD, Louise Bugler and WD, Lucy Churchill. Bay Fencing kept fighting and managed to score some good goals in spite of the relentless defence from Belle.

Bay Fencing’s WA, Hayley Stanton, worked to prevent more interceptions from Belle throughout the third quarter. Both teams began to get tired but continued to up their game.

In the final quarter Belle Construction increased their lead, with good movement down the court and some well-timed interceptions, resulting in a solid victory for the team.

DIVISION ONE

OJO’S 29

OTC 35

OTC claimed narrow win after a fierce match against OJO’s.

The first quarter saw a strong start from both teams, with good defensive work all round. Evenly matched play saw the score level at the end of this quarter.

Despite excellent movement around the circle from OJO’s WA, Donna Butcher, and C, Becs Drake, OTC’s strong defence allowed them to creep ahead in the second quarter.

An injury for OJO’s early in the third quarter set them back, allowing OTC to increase their lead. OJO’s continued to fight hard to finish this quarter only nine goals behind.

OJOs upped their game in the final quarter but consistently accurate shooting from OTC’s Emma Mills and Lucy McNally, meant that OTC were able to hold onto their lead until the end.

DIVISION ONE

GW ELECTRICAL 25

WETHERSPOONS 31

WETHERSPOONS were made to battle for a well-earned win against GW Electrical.

Wetherspoons started strong, managing to score off GW Electricals first centre pass. Good interceptions allowed Wetherspoons to send the ball up to GS, Emma Carter, and GA, Chantelle Lewis, giving them more opportunities to score. GW upped their game in an attempt to narrow the goal difference, but struggled with only six players. Wetherspoons took advantage of this to secure the lead before the second quarter.

Fluid play from GW Electricals’ WA, Kate Sanderson, allowed her team to convert goals one after the other. However, Wetherspoons continued to use their unmarked player to their advantage and increased their lead.

In the third quarter, GW Electricals’ C, Rachel Senior, played the court superbly well. However, Wetherspoons were unrelenting and, having switched positions, continued to convert goals.

A final push from GW Electrical saw them managing to close the gap slightly, but in the end Wetherspoons claimed the victory.
