TOMORROW Dorchester entertain Frome at Surcouf Park, in their Counties 1 Tribute Southern South fixture (2.30pm).

Both sides sit next to each other in the table, on the same points tally, the Somerset side having picked up one more win than Dorchester.

Frome 1st XV have played a league above for the past four seasons, last visiting in 2018.

This has all the hallmarks of a close fought match in what could be poor conditions. The home side will need to be at their best and put the disappointment of the last league result behind them.

Dorchester have a young hungry squad, building for the future, the average age last game was 25.

In what is clearly a competitive league, the playing group will develop and learn together gaining more experience as the season progresses.

Director of rugby, Martin Oxland, commented: “The playing group have demonstrated their ability and how they have developed as a squad on several occasions already this season.

“This weekend is another where collectively we must be fully committed to the challenge against a side that have had some positive results so far this campaign.

“We need to work hard to earn and achieve results in our favour.

“It is clear to see working with our players, that although we have been on the wrong side of some close encounters, they continually push hard in training, remain positive, and welcome the next challenge.”

On how they move forward, Oxland commented: “The coaching group continue to build on the positives and develop areas identified for improvement.

“Concentrating on a clear picture, so that when the team are dominant on the score board, they remain fully focused on all aspects of the game to ending in a positive outcome.”

This week there are some injury concerns and late calls on fitness to several players. Joe Underhill, Bradley Mullins, and Charlie Sharpe who will undergo fitness tests with George Foot still sidelined due to a concussion injury.  A change in the back line will also be necessary as Brooke Legg is unavailable.

The club’s A XV travel the short distance to Bestwall in their Counties 3 Tribute Dorset & Wilts fixture with Swanage & Wareham 2nd XV.

Swans lie second in the table to Dorchester’s fifth, in what should be as ever a very competitive match up. Jamie Jackson’s side will be keen to pick up a result on the road having missed the previous weekend’s league game with the opposition being unable to field a side.

Sunday evening the club hosts its annual family firework display. Gates opening at 5pm with display at 7pm. Family ticket £14, Adults £5, under 16’s £3, under 5’s free. Plenty of entertainment for young ones, food outlets and bars onsite.
