The umpires did a great job of picking up contacts from Buglers which New Body took advantage of, making tactical decisions with their spacing and converting into a two-goal half-time lead.

The third quarter saw more consistent play from both teams with New Body’s GA Lucy Lowe positioning herself for easy goals.

However, Buglers fought back hard and made an incredible turnaround to take the lead by three going into the final quarter.

Buglers’ defensive duo Chloe Grier and Stacey Sollis worked well together making it hard for New Body, who fought to the end and reduced the deficit to one goal but could not find an equaliser late on.

McCARTHY STONE 42

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 29

McCARTHY Stone reeled off a fifth straight Division One win, beating Joe Newton Electrical 42-29.

Both inter teams started with a convincing first quarter with a notably strong defence from McCarthy’s Megan Rowe and Donna Butcher.

McCarthy were also converting all their attempts into goals, and some good interceptions saw them overturn some of Joe Newton’s efforts on their way to a comfortable 18-4 lead.

Joe Newton continued to make a valiant effort at gaining goals with some exceptional shooting from Camilla Assirati.

McCarthy’s defensive duo continued to intercept and secure any rebounds which were then converted back down the court into goals for a 26-11 half-time lead.

Joe Newtons defence upped their game making it more difficult for McCarthy to get the ball into the D but they still found ways to stretch their lead on their way to victory.

Wildcats’ Frankie Eversden made some great accurate shots, helping to stretch their lead into the third quarter which saw GK Maraia Ratulailai intercept a ball, direct it down court and help to score another goal.

Krakens added fresh legs to help pull the gameplay back, but Wildcats’ accurate shooting resulted in a great win for the juniors.

EVOLVED TUNING 23

ARTIFEX SIRENS 35

ARTIFEX Sirens maintained their 100 per cent record with a 35-23 win over Evolved Tuning in Division Two.

An incredibly close and engaging game to watch saw Evolved leading by one goal at the end of the first quarter.

The energy and encouragement from Evolve’s GS Gracie Bourne was notable and contributed to the enthusiasm on court by all.

The second quarter saw both teams convert their own centre passes to goals with accurate shooting from Sirens’ GS Kate O’Shaughnessy at various places around the D.

Evolved’s defensive duo Jess Frampton and Charlotte Pantry made some great interceptions, and at half-time this game was 12-12.

In the third quarter, Evolved made a tactical change putting Chloe Kelly into GS due to her height advantage.

Gracie Bourne was also playing well and receiving lots of passes, however the Sirens’ shooting duo and excellent ball work around the D from centre court players allowed them to secure 10 goals in this quarter for a 22-18 lead.

Despite a valiant effort from Evolved, Sirens added a further 13 goals to stay top of the table.
