WEYMOUTH & Portland host arch-rivals Dorchester in the second of this season’s Counties One Tribute Southern South derbies at Monmouth Avenue (2.30pm).

Weymouth & Portland won the first Ridgeway Rumble 15-13 at Surcouf Park and have the chance to do a rare double over Martin Oxland’s men.

Coach Rich Bament has already urged his side to put together a cool and calm display in order to play their best rugby.

The Seahorses currently reside in 10th place on 21 points, three spots and 18 points adrift of Dorchester.

In the previous Ridgeway Rumble, Weymouth’s last-minute win came thanks to a penalty slotted over by ex-Dorchester player James Baker.

In a tight game discipline was key and Dorchester’s coaching team have been keen to reduce the penalty count in recent games.

Steve Tucker will lead the strongest squad available to him, and although the side have recently had some strong wins under their belt, they will know form goes out of the window in this local derby. The match has the hallmarks of a tough contest with both sides needing the win.

Scrum-half Jack Hayward will be looking to control the game and release his quick backs to find the gaps in the Seahorses’ defence.

Last weekend saw Dorchester utilise the width with tries for both wingers and their full-back, with the speed of Jack Adams, Brook Legg and Cohen Emery, available for selection, the visitors have the talent to get over the try line.

Following the dominant performance from the forwards last weekend against Corsham, the set-piece scrum will be an important factor in the game. Likely Dorchester will again go with the reliable front row of Joe Underhill, Scott Clarke and Tom Louch with the captain Tucker anchoring at base of the scrum.

Elsewhere, Dorchester A host Swanage & Wareham Seconds in another local derby (2.30pm).

This will be a classic top versus bottom clash in the league, but again as in any local derby, the game will be hugely competitive and form can often be irrelevant to the final result.

Captain Jamie Jackson will again have the front row colossus of Chris Elliott at his disposal, and the experience of Jake Bosher to rely on for delivery of quick ball to his backs.

Colts Freddie Lambourn and Jacob Cope will feature for the team alongside last weekend’s two first-team debutants Flynn Drummond and Josh White.

The future looks bright for the club with younger players integrating well into the senior squad building for seasons to come.
