WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS A 34

BELLE Construction rounded off another invincible South & West Dorset League Premier Division season with a 59-34 win over Warmer Home Improvements A.

Belle, who end with 12 wins from 12 games, took an early lead with three consecutive goals.

A great turnover from Warmer helped them on the scoreboard and accurate shooting from GS Stacey Moller, sinking a long shot helped bring the first quarter score within two.

In the second quarter, the undefeated Belle passed the ball well around the D gaining the first goal. Warmer performed good interceptions to take possession of the ball but Belle, thanks to some exceptional shots from GS Jayne Guppy, led 28-14 at half-time.

Going into the third quarter a valiant effort from GK Sarah Bryant saw some clean interceptions. Despite the pressure Warmer applied, Belle continued to extend their lead.

Belle went on to dominate play throughout to crown themselves as champions yet again, with Warmer in third.

NEW BODY FITNESS 43

ARTIFEX DRAGONS 30

NEW Body Fitness ended their Premier campaign with a 43-30 win over Artifex Dragons.

Accurate shooting from Lea Holmes gave Dragons an early lead, while good defensive pressure in the D minimised New Body’s goal attempts.

Dragons’ attacking end worked well around the circle and New Body’s Kirsty Winning created great space on court, enabling New Body to pull back to a 13-10 deficit after a slow start.

Changes in the second quarter from New Body saw Ellen Surtees move into GS and show great skill around the D. Combined with short accurate passes and shooting from GA Grace Farrar, New Body took a 22-17 lead at half-time.

The third quarter saw fast paced play from both teams with New Body showing patience working the ball around the D against a strong Dragons defence. Despite this, New Body extended their lead. Good defence from Dragons saw New Body with a held ball, but they struggled to capitalise as New Body held out for a 43-30 victory.

COASTAL CHEESE 43

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 24

COASTAL Cheese finished second on goal difference in Division One following their 43-24 win over Joe Newton Electrical.

It means McCarthy Stone take the league win by just four goals.

In this sister team game, Coastal showed good promise at the start although struggled to make the first shot.

Joe Newton took advantage and managed to score first as shooting duo Camilla Assirati and Caragh Watt demonstrated great movement around the circle, but Coastal edged into the lead.

Coastal continued well into the second quarter and forced multiple turnovers resulting in goals and a seven-point lead at half-time.

Coastal extend their lead despite some lovely rebound work from Joe Newton, while seamless play from both teams with accurate passing made for a great game, Joe Newton finishing fourth in the table.

ZEST 34

ARTIFEX SIRENS 29

ZEST concluded their Division Two season with a maximum 12 victories from 12 matches following a narrow 34-29 success over Artifex Sirens.

In a very closely contested game between friends, Zest worked the ball well to get into the D with lots of passes to reach over Sirens’ formidable defensive duo Christine Jones and Dawn Rendell.

Accurate shooting from Zest’s GS Emma Mills saw them edge the lead at the end of the first quarter.

Rendell and Zest GA Annabel Bartlett took a fall resulting in war wounds from Rendell who bounced back and gave it her all, while Zest extended their lead in the second quarter with some brilliant defensive play and smooth centre third passes.

Centres Meegan Ling and Jacqui Brisbane were a good match for some contested energetic play and great watching.

The third quarter saw Zest move away again with play-ups from Dreams’ Molly Horton and Emily Hardwick helping in defence along with Sian White and Kirsty Aplin.

Accurate shooting from Sirens’ duo Kate O’Shaughnessy and Jemima Gomm helped close the gap, but experienced feeds from Zest’s WA Lauren Kenney helped secure more goals as Zest secured promotion to Division One for the summer season, with Sirens in third.
