WEYMOUTH are on red alert as they embark on a “challenging” sequence of back-to-back games against Braintree Town.

The Terras begin the double-header with a home game against the Iron tomorrow (3pm), before making the lengthy return trip on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Manager Bobby Wilkinson is hugely impressed with Braintree, who are 12 Vanarama National League games unbeaten and currently occupy fourth.

Wilkinson watched Braintree in person as they defeated Dartford 2-0 on Tuesday and noted their prowess.

Speaking to Echosport, he said: “Now we come up against one of the best teams in the league this year, I do believe they’ll get promoted if they make the play-offs.

“They really did impress me. It’s a group that have been together for the last year and they tore Dartford apart.

“There’s three or four great sides in our league, but for me personally they’re the most in-form team in the league and they did win seven on the bounce.

“This is going to be a really challenging game for us. We’ve won some big games this year but what we want to do is play one of the real competitors who will definitely be in the play-offs, it would be good to beat them.”

With a busy Easter schedule looming, Wilkinson has also considered rotating his squad.

“I might have to these two games,” he admitted. “I will look at it, I’ll put a gameplan out for Saturday and Tuesday.

“It’s so important we pick up points to continue our momentum. Everyone around us and below us, they’re all picking up points.

“That’s why these games have been enjoyable. We’re 15th in the league now and it’s a fantastic achievement to be there.

“Wouldn’t it be great to finish there at the end of the season. We continue to strive forward.”

However, the midweek postponement against Truro means skipper Tom Bearwish will be unavailable against Braintree at home as he serves the second match of a two-game suspension.

“I’m not going to lie, that’s really frustrating for me,” Wilkinson admitted.

“If there’s ever a time you want your captain, it’s against these. That’s a real blow because the way you want to play and set up, you want Bear in there.

“That’s the gameplan I’ve got to think about, like I did at Aveley last week. We’ve got to adapt to certain players in certain positions and a certain system.”

Weymouth’s only major concern is Malachi Linton (hamstring), with Keelan O’Connell (ankle) set to come back into the squad.

On the latter, Wilkinson said: “He’s back, he’s trained well this week. I’m really pleased with Keels.

“I’m glad to get this boy back playing.”

Weymouth continue to work on deals for Corey Panter and Naz Bakrin, with the former understood to be their preference.
