WEYMOUTH were stunned late on by Braintree Town on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Lucas Stadium, as the visitors took the three points back to Essex with a 1-0 win.

Braintree arrived in Dorset unbeaten in 12 matches as they look to clinch a spot in the National League South play-offs.

But they were made to work hard for all three points by Terras, eventually getting the only goal of the game courtesy of Baris Altintop.

Terras boss Bobby Wilkinson named one change to his line-up following last week’s 2-0 away win against Aveley, as Dan Roberts replaced Malachi Linton, who was not in the squad.

The Terras almost got an immediate lead after Joel Rollinson got thread through straight away from kick off. He took on a shot towards Jack Sims' near post, but the keeper got both hands behind the ball to make the save.

Three minutes into the game, the visitors had their first sight on goal through Aaron Blair. The striker took the ball on in midfield and fired a shot towards goal, which deflected off a Terras defender but was straight into Harvey Wiles-Richards.

After six minutes, Roberts and Brandon Goodship combined well with some dazzling link up play, but the latter’s shot was denied with a last ditch block from a Braintree player as he struck it.

Dorset Echo: Moments later, Harry Parsons got onto the ball and drilled a shot from range, but it flashed wide of the goal.

Rollinson committed a foul on the edge of the box in the tenth minute. Tom Blackwell lined up to take the shot, which deflected off the wall and wide for a corner.

Wiles-Richards then pulled off a great save from the resulting corner. Blackwell's set-piece was headed towards goal at the near post by Joseph Grimwood, but parried away by the keeper.

Dorset Echo: Goodship took on possession from Ezio Touray in the 13th minute and fired a shot from around 20 yards out, but the fizzing ball was a comfortable save for Sims.

Freddie Sears was fouled by Jordon Thompson, who was deemed to have held onto the former Ipswich Town and West Ham player in the 17th minute. Blackwell whipped in the ball, but it was well cleared by Thompson.

In the 24th minute, Blackwell created space for himself on the left by shaking off Leo Hamblin to carve out a curling shot, but the ball blazed high over the bar.

On the half-hour mark, a long free-kick from the Terras was headed out by a Braintree defender into the path of Parsons who fired a first time strike towards goal, but the ball was blocked and went behind for a corner.

Braintree were looking frustrated as both Alfie Payne and Altintop made it into the referee’s book in the space of two minutes, with needless fouls on Goodship and Roberts respectively.

Eight minutes into the second half, the visitors had a chance to take the lead. A long free-kick gets swung in by Blackwell which is headed away by a Weymouth player, but only as far as Dominic Odusanya, who took on a first time shot.

Odusanya's effort is then blocked well by a Braintree defender, who clears the danger.

Weymouth etched a half chance in the sixty-sixth minute as Goodship threaded a ball down the far side for Touray, who then poked a ball across the face of goal, but there were no Weymouth strikers in the area to receive the ball and take on a shot.

Dorset Echo: Braintree took the lead from a set-piece in the 76th minute, despite their dead ball specialist Blackwell being substituted minutes earlier. Substitute Reggie Lambe swung the ball in and captain Altintop rose highest with a free downward header at the near post to take the advantage.

Parsons tried to swing in an early ball for Touray on a counter in the 85th minute, but the cross bounced straight through to Sims.

Dorset Echo: Late into added time, substitute Keelan O'Connell cut in from the left, but his low drilled effort with his right boot was also into Sims' path.

Four minutes of added time were not enough for the Terras, who travel to Braintree on Tuesday night for the reverse fixture.

Braintree are now unbeaten in 13 league games and move up to third place ahead of the next game, whilst Weymouth remain in 15th.
