BRIDPORT made it three wins on the spin, easing past Torridgeside 2-0 at St Mary’s Field.

Bees will have finished this game happy to have secured another valuable win, but it could and perhaps should have been by more than two goals.

Fred Parsons opened the scoring for Bridport after just four minutes when a corner found him at the back post from where he slotted home. An own goal later secured the points.

Visitors Torridgeside seemed completely out of sorts from the off, with seemingly only one sub available, their dark grey shirts visually mirroring the mist and rain that periodically trundled across the pitch.

Sol Ayunga was unlucky not to double the lead two minutes later when his shot was well saved, and for the next twenty minutes Bridport dominated, not allowing “T-Side” a shot on goal.

Their high (and low) points of the half came when Bees keeper Jordon Scadding collected the ball from a wayward pass and picked it up. Regrettably, in avoiding an opposing forward, he dropped the ball, only to pick it up again to gift Torridgeside a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The resulting set-piece saw the ball nestle in the back of the Bridport goal, but when the equaliser was disallowed for offside, the reaction of the scorer who promptly ran from the centre of the pitch screaming at the linesman on the touch line, earnt him an obvious yellow card and a visit to the sin bin. Kieran Daniels and Riley Weedon then both drew good saves as the half ended.

The second half followed in the same style with the Bees easily having 80 per cent of the play, as notably, Weedon and Parsons peppered the home goal with no result.

As the half progressed the visitors’ penalty area resembled The Alamo, with Parsons and Brad Rowe both having good efforts saved or blocked. Ironically, after all of the shots on goal, the Bees second came from an own goal in the 67th minute when a shot across goal cannoned into the net off of an unfortunate defender.

The Bees continued to bombard their opponents’ goal with a fusillade of shots, with Sol Ayunga being the last to try, his shot on the run being tipped over the bar in the 93rd minute.

Bridport sit second in the South West Peninsula Premier East table, three points clear of Crediton United and 21 behind runaway leaders Ivybridge Town.

Chris Herbst’s men are back in action on Tuesday night, when they host Ivybridge in a battle of the league’s top two.
