INTERIM manager Jason Matthews is on a mission to live up to the expectations of the Weymouth badge and wants to “make our fans proud” at Bath City today (3pm).

Matthews has taken over, with interim assistant Josh McQuoid, after Bobby Wilkinson’s sudden exit from the Bob Lucas Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Bath resident Matthews believes the fixture has fallen kindly for him, with intelligence on the Romans’ squad at his disposal.

And, with Bath in 10th and just one point off the coveted top-seven, Matthews believes all the burden lies on the Romans’ shoulders.

He told Echosport: “They desperately need a result. They’ve drawn their last game and just about slipped out of the play-offs.

“They’ll want to beat us, which comes with its own pressure. We can go there, go out and give a real good account of ourselves.

“We want to make our fans proud of us over Bank Holiday.

“I have done some homework on Bath. Fortunately, I’ve been and watched them very recently. I know a lot of their players.

“So, in a random kind of way, it’s good that it is Bath because I do know a lot about them. They’re a good side.

“Cody Cooke, our former player, will be back fit now so he’ll be one we need to stop. They do have some very good players in their squad.”

And Weymouth are set to go into the clash with a fully-fit squad to choose from.

“We’ll got a clean bill of health at the moment,” Matthews advised.

“The boys have had a tough run and a few were struggling with knocks after the Braintree game but they managed to pull through for the Havant game.

“We’ve managed to give them a week’s breather. With the news breaking (Wednesday) night, it would’ve been difficult for us to train.

“But we go into Bath fresh with two games in three days.”
